Editorial policy
How this site decides what to publish.
FitQuota covers health topics, so it should be possible to check our working rather than take our word for anything. These are the rules the site is actually held to.
Every citation is checked
Each paper referenced on this site was resolved against PubMed before it was cited. The authors, journal, year, volume, issue and page numbers come from the record rather than from memory, and the claim attached to a citation is one the abstract actually supports.
This matters more than it sounds. Plausible-looking citations are easy to produce and hard for a reader to spot, and several references considered for this site were discarded at exactly this step because the identifier turned out to belong to an unrelated paper.
Numbers come from the calculator
Worked examples in the guides are checked against the same code that runs the tools, not calculated separately. A guide cannot quietly disagree with the calculator it sits beside, because the figures in it were produced by that calculator.
The calculation logic itself is frozen against a fixed set of reference values. If a change moved any of them, that change is wrong until proven otherwise.
Uncertainty is published, not hidden
Where a method has a published error, the page states it. The body fat calculator reports a range rather than a single figure because the equation behind it carries an error of about four percentage points. Every calculator says plainly what its equation cannot see.
Where the evidence contradicts something the site would rather be true, the evidence wins. A claim here about menstrual weight change was corrected downward, from the figure the internet repeats to the smaller one a study measured, after the paper was read properly.
What this site will not do
- Invent credentials, medical reviewers or expert quotes.
- Publish ratings, reviews or testimonials that did not happen.
- Change an updated date unless the content actually changed.
- Attach a citation that does not support the sentence next to it.
- Present an estimate as a measurement, or a convention as a finding.
- Give individual medical advice, or a calorie target to a child.
Where the site is limited
FitQuota is built and maintained by Hammad Shahid, who is a developer rather than a clinician or a registered dietitian. Nothing here is medically reviewed, and the site does not claim to be.
What that means in practice is that this site implements published equations carefully and shows its working, but it cannot interpret your situation. Anything that depends on your own health belongs with a professional who can ask you questions.
Corrections
If a formula, a figure or a citation on this site is wrong, please get in touch. Corrections are made quickly, and the last updated date on the page moves when they are, because that is what the date is for.
Every calculator page lists the sources behind its method, so a disagreement can usually be settled by reading the paper rather than by trusting either of us.
